Hopsin: Behind the eyes of Marcus Hopson

His piercing, white contacts can make him appear very intimidating, but there's much more to Marcus Hopson than meets the eye.

Marcus Hopson is an American rapper better known by his stage name, Hopsin.  He grew up in small city called Panorama, located in California.  He released his first album, "Emurge",  in 2003.  In 2009, he co-founded the record label, Funk Volume, with his business partner, Damien Ritter.  Hopsin was introduced to three new artists that later joined the label: Jarren Benton, Dizzy Wright, and SwizZz.

Hopsin is very well known for his music video series, Ill Mind of Hopsin.  In these songs, he picks a certain topic and completely reveals his thoughts, the most viewed being Ill Mind of Hopsin Five, with over fifty million views on YouTube.  In this song, he tries to inspire us to do something great with our lives, and it's our fault if we don't do anything great because of the pure laziness and lack of effort of some people.  The most memorable song (in my opinion) is Ill Mind of Hopsin Seven.  In this song, Hopsin gives his true opinion on religion, where he seemingly "loses faith" in the lord.  There are seven songs in the Ill Mind series.  On Sway's YouTube channel, Hopsin said that he didn't want to make an eighth Ill Mind song because he believes once you send a message to God, that 's the breaking point in which the series needs to end.  Despite saying that, he made an eighth song called "Fly", in which he points out that the government is trying to corrupt our minds with all this technology and jewelry.

As of January, 2016, Hopsin had left Funk volume due to issues with his partner, Damien Ritter, claiming that Funk Volume is "Officially dead".  As for what's next in this inspiring rapper's future, it is for sure to be great.
